The Quality Assurance Workshop was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCMC, from 8:00 to 11:45 on June 24, 2016 in Room D201 & D202, 10-12 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, District 1, HCM City.

The delegates to the workshop included: Dr. Le Huu Phuoc, Vice President of the University; Dr. Nguyen Khac Canh, Vice President of the University; Mr. Phan Thanh Dinh, M.A., Vice President of the University; Dr. Le Thi Quynh Ha, Deputy Head of the Department of Undergraduate and Graduate Affairs, VNU- HCMC; Mr. Luu Trung Thuy, M.A., Deputy Head of the Department of Student Affairs, VNU-HCMC; and representatives of the Quality Assurance Units of the members of VNU-HCMC and other universities such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Saigon University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ton Duc Thang University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law ... and the heads of the Offices, Departments, Centers, Faculties, quality assurance staff/officers, and many other staff and lecturers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCMC.


Dr. Le Huu Phuoc emphasized in the opening speech that, "The Quality Assurance Workshop is held every two years in order to attract the attention of all the staff, lecturers and students who can make contributions to the quality assurance and improvement in all activities, developing quality culture for the sustainable development of the university."

This workshop, with the focus on "constructive alignment of learning outcomes", concentrated on the learning outcomes of training programs as well as the innovation of teaching methods and student assessment and learner support to help students achieve the learning outcomes.


The Organizing Committee has selected 19 papers from lecturers of USSH, VNU-HCM and other universities for the proceedings, and 05 presentations with the desire to get implications for the improvement plans after the workshop.


In the first session, 03 presentations were delivered on the following topics (1) "Analysis of logical link between the PLO (programme learning outcome) statements for the educational programs and assessment system" presented by Dr. Huynh Van Thong, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, USSH, VNU-HCMC, (2) "Reforming training programs to improve learners’ competency according to expected learning outcomes" by Dr. Le Chi Lan, Deputy Head of the Office of  Educational Testing & Quality Assurance, Saigon University, and (3) "Formulating expected learning outcomes in postgraduate training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCMC" by Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Mai, Head of the Office of Graduate Affairs, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCMC.

In this first session, the participants raised a lot of questions on the theme of the learning outcomes and discussed several models and principles of constructing/formulating the learning outcomes effectively implemented in some undergraduate and graduate training programs.


In the second session, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, Head of the Department of English Teaching, Faculty of English Linguistics and Literature, USSH, VNU-HCMC presented her paper on "Comparing student assessment at the UK and Vietnamese Universities in the lens of the sustainable assessment framework", and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huy, M.A., Head of the Department of Informatics (for regular students), Information Technology Center, USSH, VNU-HCMC reported "Application of information technology in teaching".

Regarding the useful and practical topics mentioned above, the participants expressed their agreement on the implications and suggestions of these two reports with the desire to use the modern model of student assessment and to apply the information technology in the efficient improvement of teaching methods and learning assessment.


In the closing speech, Mr. Phan Thanh Dinh, M.A., the Vice President, said, "In recent years, the quality assurance has become a familiar topic to our university and quality assurance activities have been carried out regularly on the basis of continuous improvement. The organization of the workshop today is one of these regular activities".
